Service Opportunities
by Pastor David

“As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace: 11 whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies—in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.” I Peter 4:10-11

Everyone has received a spiritual gift. The purpose of that gift is to serve each other in the local church and our responsibility is to be good stewards of God’s multifaceted grace. If you break all the spiritual gifts into just two groups, speaking or serving, the overarching goal is still the same--bring God glory through Jesus Christ. So if we’re speaking, we bring God glory by speaking His message for Him. If we’re serving, we bring God glory by relying on the strength He gives and not our own.

God’s glory is of ultimate importance to our church. Therefore, our body stewarding our spiritual gifts to serve each other is necessarily crucial. I’m so thankful for so many of you who are actively, week in and week out, using your gifts to glorify God. Sometimes those are seen and sometimes they’re totally unnoticed by the church as a whole, but always your service is for God who deserves all the glory. We’d like to do a better and better job equipping and enabling you to use your gifts. One simple way is to communicate some needs, and ask you to pray and consider how you ought to be stewarding the gifts you have. Here are a couple current needs.

Bulletin Design
If you have graphic design abilities, we’d love to talk to you about designing bulletin covers. Also, the Shavers and Bartels had the great idea of making a kid’s bulletin. Lots of our bulletins get used for coloring and turned into paper airplanes, so why not get a team of people who prepare a kid-specific, one page bulletin that has a coloring activity, maybe some tracing or dot to dot pictures or other ideas? If you’re interested in helping with bulletin stuff, contact Pastor David.

Teachers
Whether it’s 3-5 year old Sunday school, 6-12 Sunday school, or during the worship service, we’d love to build an even bigger team of equipped, energetic children’s teachers. If you haven’t already, contact Pastor David with your interest.

Nursery and older helpers
We’re always in need of nursery helpers, as well as helpers for our Sunday school classes and worship service time. If you don’t feel like you can teach, but you do love children and enjoy being with them, being a helper is a greatly needed service. Children’s ministry workers don’t miss more than one worship service a month, and the more workers we have the less everyone misses the worship service.

Event planning
We’re coming up to our annual big summer BBQ and baptism. We’ll be needing help at all levels, from overseeing it all to food to games to hospitality. Beyond that, we need people who are looking ahead at our church schedule and helping us get events organized, scheduled, and useful for building up our Body.

Set up
Another weekly service need is our set up and tear down. It’s been nice to have the summer where we could leave the nursery set up, but soon we’ll be back to set up and tear down. Many hands make light work in this ministry. By way of more specialized set up, it would be great to expand our sound team too.

These are just a sampling of current needs. Serving one another is a weekly, constant joy and expectation within Christ’s body. Whatever gift you have, use it to glorify God!
