Last week David exhorted us to love one another, and what a needed reminder that is for each of us. While the love of God is poured out in our hearts through Christ, we certainly need continued growth in our expression of and our faithfulness to loving each other. The Scriptures are not silent as to the means of cultivating this most fundamental fruit of the Spirit. There is a need for the Word to inform our standard for love by revealing the love of Christ, as well as the relational commands that help shape our expression of love toward other believers. Hebrews 10:24-25 provides yet another help for our loving one another: we need each other in order to love each other. The author to Hebrews places a unique responsibility on each and every true follower of Christ to "stir up one another" in the pursuit of a love and lifestyle that honors Christ. Furthermore, the author does not assume we will connect the dots in this Christian responsibility, so he carefully informs our consciences that we must gather together to accomplish this stirring up of one another. Do you consider your God-ordained ministry each time you gather with believers? Christians need Christians to grow. You need others and others need you!
